Expect the Expected

Expect the expected

My next door neighbor, Singh Sahab is a nice husband and family man, famous as an actively practicing cook and grocery shopper. A fortnight ago, his wife and kids had gone to their native place and Singh Sahab was enjoying a bachelor life. Last Sunday, while cooking lunch, he found that he had run out of tomatoes. The vegetable shop is less than 2 minutes walk from our house;  thinking that he will be back in less than 5 minutes, he didn't lock his house and went to buy his tomatoes. Nothing unusual happened and the guy was back in less than 5 minutes. Ten minutes later, he knocked at my door which was already open for my obsession with fresh air and asked me if I had taken his phone from his house. Before I could understand what he was up to, he had accused me of stealing his phone from his house. As per his argument, no other house was so close to his for the operation to complete within 5 minutes, no other door was open so no one else could have seen him going out. Amid the din, 10 of my neighbors came around and I was convicted of being a thief. The only relief of the day for me was that the poor guy whose phone was stolen and those sympathizing with him didn't do a third degree search of my house to find the phone. May be for them, I deserved to keep the iPhone in return for the insult I was given.

Politicians shame on you

IAF Veteran Biren Yadav wrote:

"Yesterday I was at Hindon Air Force base for the funeral of 5 brave air warriors of 77 Squadron who were involved in the recent air crash. Amongst them was our dear late Wing Commander Prashant Joshi (Son of Veteran Group Captain Ashok  Joshi and Son-in-law of Veteran Wing Commander SU "Suzy" Apte, who are ace Fighter pilots and now settled at pune). Late Wing Commander Joshi leaves behind his wife Squadron Leader (retd) Anita Joshi and two small children of age 8 and 2. Late Wing Commander Joshi was cleared for Promotion to next Rank as Group Captain and was slated to take over as CO of No 77 Squadron equipped with Hercules Super 130J. It was a very sad moment. The Station arranged their farewell with honour and dignity which they truly deserved. The loss of so many from a squadron is unthinkable. The Squadron officers proudly saluted their comrades knowing very well they have lost the best."

Defending the Un-Defendable: A Sad Case of Wendy-Worship

Against Devdutt Article

The hosts of Devdutt Pattanaik [1] in the US reacted in a normal way. They were rightly surprised by his fondness for a person like Doniger who passes her low-level soft-porn dressed as “Alternative History of Hindus”. Fondness for a person needs to grounded in that persons character, values and acts. In Hindu Dharma, love and forgiveness are fundamental ideals. It is generally said in India that one should shun bad actions and not the bad person, but at the same time there is no mandate to love a bad person. There is no way a  person with genuine convictions can be ‘fond’ of such a person; at most, you remain neutral and leave her/him to his own Karmic retribution and keep your guard strong against the adharmic acts. If Doniger is invading the sacred and causing untold suffering to fellow human beings, just to assuage her own feelings of misplaced self-worth, her actions certainly do not elicit fondness or love.
